DOLE Accredits 112 Contractors as Construction Officers
BAGUIO CITY - The Department of Labor and Employment Cordillera Administrative Region (DOLE-CAR) is currently conducting a five-day basic occupational safety and health training for contractors and sub-contractors to comply with the requirements of the guidelines governing safety and health in the construction industry particularly PCAB Category C and D Trade and small scale mining industry which started last May 6 to 10, 2013 at DOLE-CAR Conference Hall here.

DOLE-CAR Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena said the training aims to provide participants with basic knowledge and skills on occupational safety and health that will enable them to plan and develop their safety programs in their workplaces.

He said the participants would be able to identify existing and potential hazards and their effects to the workers, as well as to determine the appropriate control measures in specifically in construction and the small scale mining industry.

"Contractors and sub-contractors need to be knowledgeable on the importance of safety and health to ensure that the welfare of their workers will not be sacrificed and to attain zero accident in the workplaces," he added.

Since the free occupational and health safety training started last month covering three batches, a total of one hundred twelve (112) have completed 40 hours training and are now accredited as Construction Safety Officers.

The 4th and 5th batches will be on May 27 to 31, 2013 and June 3 to 7, 2013 respectively. The training is held at the DOLE-CAR Conference Hall, 3rd floor, DOLE-CAR Building, Cabinet hill, Baguio City. The free training is in coordination with the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSCH), the Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) and the Regional OSHNET.
